How long will it take for my stock order be dispatched?
We hand finish our stock house numbers to order to ensure we provide the highest quality to our customers. This means that your order is carefully packed straight from the workbench after passing our exceptional quality control standards. This is usually within 3-4 working days from order (unless the product page indicates a longer time for custom items) more detailed information can be found in our shipping policy.
Can I fast track my order for quicker shipping?
Yes for most stock items this is possible, so if you are concerned about your delivery date please contact us with your order number or desired product for more information. If you are working to a deadline or need your number as a gift we can fast track an order if we have capacity, so just give us a ring on 01258 456225 if you would like to access this service.
What materials do you use to manufacture your products?
Our house names and numbers are primarily cut from 3mm 304 grade stainless steel and will stay looking flawless for a lifetime, with only an occasional clean, though if you are in a coastal area 316 grade is recommended. We also offer powder coated house numbers in a variety of colours which are also vert durable. We also use acrylic and aluminium composite as alternative materials which are also suitable for external conditions. Stainless steel, powder coated stainless steel and acrylic are all fantastic choices for a house name or house number in the UK.
Where should house numbers be placed for best visibility?
House numbers should be clearly visible from the road, ideally near the front door, main entrance or gate. Alternatively installing straight onto the door can be a great choice for visibility. They should not be hidden by plants or architectural features. LED house numbers are especially effective for properties with limited external lighting.
How do your hidden fixings work?
Our hidden fixing system is unique to Housenumbers Limited and is simple and easy to install. In stainless steel we have two hidden fixing systems, one for brick or masonry, and one for wood (fixing pin length will vary according to the size of number ordered). Both these systems are 'all metal' with no glue or plastic involved, and your order will be delivered to you with everything you need to install your new number, including detailed instructions. Our LED products, stick on products, acrylic products, and larger house signs all have a slightly different hidden fixing system, so just contact us if you would like to see instructions for these products.
If you would like to install the numbers to a different surface then give us a call on 01258 456225 to talk it through as our workshop team can usually adapt our products for any surface.

What materials are best for outdoor house signs?
The best materials for outdoor house signs are durable and weather-resistant. Our products are made from stainless steel, powder coated stainless steel, acrylic or other composite materials. All our signs are designed to withstand the UK climate. Our range of stainless steel house numbers are the most durable house numbers on the market, the material will last as long as your house and will not rust in external conditions. If you are in a coastal area you will need 316 marine grade stainless steel.
Are LED house signs legal in the UK?
Yes, LED house signs are legal in the UK for residential properties. As long as the sign displays your house name or number, does not flash, and is not excessively bright or distracting, it is generally permitted. Our LED house signs are designed specifically for domestic use, offering clear visibility without glare. They are also a great choice for your business and we are happy to use logos or images, or work with you on your design to create the perfect signage whatever the context.
Do I need planning permission for an LED house sign?
In most cases, planning permission is not required for house signs or LED house numbers on UK homes. Exceptions may apply for listed buildings or properties in conservation areas. If you’re unsure, our team can offer guidance based on your property.
What are the benefits of LED house numbers?
LED house numbers improve visibility at night, enhance kerb appeal, and help visitors and emergency services locate your property more easily. They are energy-efficient, long-lasting, and a popular choice for homeowners seeking something that will enhance the property both during the day and at night.
How are LED house signs powered?
LED house signs can be low-voltage with a remote transformer or connected directly to the mains electrics with the transformer behind the sign, depending on the design. Some of our LED house signs are specifically designed to replace existing exterior lights, using the same electrical supply. You can read all about our LED products and the 2 electrical connection options by reading our product information sheet which can be downloaded from this link.
Do I need an electrician to install LED house signs?
Yes. Any mains-powered LED house sign should be installed by a qualified electrician to ensure safety and compliance. We do recommend making sure you have the correct electrical connection for any existing cable, which you can read about on the final page of this document. Our non-illuminated house signs and standard house numbers can usually be installed with basic tools by people competent at DIY.
How long do LED house signs and LED house numbers last?
Our LED house signs and LED house numbers are manufactured using high-quality components designed to last many years when installed correctly, with minimal maintenance required. We use high-quality LED components with long lifespans, combined with durable, weather-resistant materials suitable for year-round outdoor use in the UK climate. All our fixing systems are designed so that the signs can be removed from the wall for maintenance and changing the LED bulbs when needed. Replacement LEDs can be purchased from us for a low cost to keep your sign in use for as long as possible.
What does ‘bespoke house sign’ mean?
A bespoke house sign is custom-designed to your specifications, including size, layout, font, materials, finishes, and fixing method. Our bespoke signs are designed in-house by experienced designers rather than automated software. We have a range of signs that you can purchase from the website in set sizes and fonts, or please contact us if you cannot see exactly what you are looking for.
Can I choose my own font and layout for my house sign?
Yes. Our bespoke service allows you to choose from a wide range of fonts and layouts or work with our designers to create a completely unique house sign.
How long does it take to create a bespoke house sign?
Production times vary depending on complexity and materials, but bespoke signs typically take longer than off-the-shelf products. We’ll always confirm lead times before production begins.
Can I see a design proof before manufacture?
Yes. For bespoke orders, we provide a design proof for approval before your sign is made, and will not begin production until we have written confirmation via email that you are happy with the design.
How do I clean and maintain my house sign?
Most house signs can be cleaned with a soft cloth. Stainless steel cleaner will bring a bright shine back to stainless that has been on the wall for years, and a damp soft cloth will lift dirt from powder coated surfaces. Avoid abrasive cleaners, particularly on powder coated or acrylic finishes, and never use a cloth which may have come into contact with cleaning detergents containing bleach . LED elements do not require regular maintenance, and replacement bulbs can be purchased from us when the time comes with no need to replace the whole sign.
What should I do if my house sign arrives damaged?
If your order arrives damaged, contact our customer service team as soon as possible. We’ll resolve the issue promptly and arrange a replacement where necessary. We package using durable protective materials including corner protectors and have very few instances of damage in transit.
Do you offer overseas shipping?
Unfortunately the pressures that Brexit has put on our small British based business has meant that we have had to stop all EU orders from our website. We are still able to offer shipping to America and Canada on our website.
Which size house number is right for me?
We have written a handy blog post about sizes which you may find useful! Our range of individual house and door numbers are stocked at 95mm, 150mm and 250mm high, but items can be manufactured to any size you require (just ask!). Our best selling size is 150mm high, however the most important thing to consider is whether your house name or number can be viewed from the road. This is a requirement under most local bylaws (so that the emergency services can identify your address).
